ATLJAPANESE is currently accepting new students for BEGINNER classes starting in March (4 slots remaining)
ATLJapanese is offering intensive classes for students interested in gaining fluency in Japanese in 2-3 years. These classes are designed for students to achieve rapid acquisition of kanji and vocabulary with the goal of engaging with native-level listening and reading materials within the first year. After learning the kana, students can expect to learn over a 1000 words and around 1000 kanji in about six months. This is far faster than a typical college Japanese program.
Structure of CLASSes:
Classes will take place weekly on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. EST and be held remotely
Classes will run 75 minutes, with optional office hours following for students who require additional help
Class size will be capped at eight students
Lessons will be structured around the Genki and Tobira textbooks with a progression of about 2-3 chapters per month
There will be a focus on applying and maintaining the techniques necessary for rapid acquisition of kanji and vocabulary, as well as on effective engagement with native immersion materials
Progress will be tracked through personalized spreadsheets and graphs monitored by the teacher, as well as through apps such as JPDB and Natively
Students will be provided all study tools and immersion materials free of charge
Students will gain access to the ATLJapanese Discord channel, where they can converse and share resources with other students
student requirements
Students must be 18 years or older
Students must have a stable internet connection and attend lessons via a laptop or desktop computer
After learning hiragana and katakana in the first two weeks, students will be expected to maintain an average acquisition rate of 10 new kanji/vocab words per day
Students should expect to devote a minimum of 30 minutes to one hour per day of self-study outside of lessons (e.g. reviewing vocabulary and kanji, practicing grammar, or engaging with immersion materials)
Students will be encouraged to take the JLPT N5 or N4 in December of 2025
