student requirements

  1. Students must be 18 years or older

  2. Students must have a stable internet connection and attend lessons via a laptop or desktop computer (no phones or tablets)

  3. After learning hiragana and katakana in the first 2-3 weeks, students will be expected to maintain an average acquisition rate of 5-10 new kanji/vocab words per day (you will be instructed in how to use spaced repetition software)

  4. Students should expect to devote a minimum average of 1-2 hours per day of self-study outside of lessons. This includes reviewing vocab/kanji and practicing grammar, but much of it can consist of immersion. (In my professional experience, anything less will put you on a fluency timeline approaching a decade)

Students will be encouraged to take the JLPT N5 or N4 in December of 2025
